Meet your next favorite book

“We sometimes tell ourselves stories about our reading lives that aren’t necessarily true. I log every book I’ve read, and the date I finished it, in a Word doc. “You don’t have to be like, ‘I’m going to read War and Peace,’” says Chasity Moreno, who works in the New York Public Library’s Reader Services department. A great way to make reading a habit is to start with short-story collections or longform magazine journalism. Here are eight strategies that can help you read more this year. “Reading is one of the best inventions that humans gave humanity, and people completely take it for granted,” Wolf says.

One of my favorite corners of Instagram is #Bookstagram, where readers post aesthetically pleasing photos of their favorite books. Other challenges focus on decolonizing your bookshelf and revisiting the classics. In general, though, keeping track of the books you’ve read can be a great way to celebrate your achievements or get real about how much you’re actually reading.

Maybe you simply want to carve out some more time to read, but are still struggling to make your way through the books on the shelf. Whether you’re looking for practical tips, emotional support, or a moment of calm, there’s an ebook here to guide and reassure you on your parenting journey. That’s why we created Read More—a place where new parents can find ebooks on topics like baby care, sleep routines, mindfulness, health, and family life. From a learning perspective, it’s probably a better use of my time to read books than to read online content. I wasn’t proactively making time to read books each day.

Read multiple books at once

  • Ebooks Fantasy Fiction Graphic Novels Historical Fiction History Horror Memoir
  • For years, I resisted anything other than a book I could hold in my hands.
  • So, I had to figure out a strategy that would allow me to read more books without letting typical distractions get in the way.
  • Yet in our era of smartphones and perpetually available distractions, it can be quite hard to motivate to read.
  • …with a mission to make parenting guidance accessible, comforting, and easy to follow.

Also what I read is mine to look at if I chose not to share it no one sees it. I've been using this app for years now and I don't normally rate apps but I think this one goes underrated. This app is good for tracking my reading process and time per page I would recommend if you wanted to do that.

Read on your phone

Nowadays, I prefer to just read however many books I feel like reading each year. A small goal that you’ll actually meet is much better than a large goal that’ll spartaza gambling commission feel insurmountable after a few days. It’s important to keep your goals small and reasonable, especially if you’re just starting out on your reading journey. Setting a goal to read 20 pages or one chapter per day is a great way to start to fit reading into the rhythm of your life. Some people who get through dozens of books a year hold the fact that they don't watch a lot of television responsible for their success.

“We can talk about time-management strategies all day, but if a reader doesn’t have good books at the ready, then there’s a duty—but no motivation or enthusiasm,” Bogel says. I also like the Goodreads app; It’s a fun way to easily log the books you have or want to read, see what your friends are reading, and peruse other readers’ reviews. I soon started only buying paper books that I knew I wanted to have on my shelf for the rest of my life, and eventually signed up for my library’s eBook platform.

“Lots of places do these challenges, and they’re really fun.” One way to spice up your reading life is to join a reading challenge—and there are lots to choose from. And I’m especially glad you’re enjoying the newer review features and the privacy options. It really means a lot to hear that you’ve found features that make the app stand out for you. But some of the books don't have the right number of pages. Goodreads is the most known I enjoy that one because of how many people use it.

Some of these genuinely transformed my relationship to reading, which I now consider to be one of my life’s central joys once again. Fortunately, there are some easy strategies out there that make reading a whole lot more accessible. Books are some of life’s great pleasures, as anyone who’s ever spent hours immersed in a gripping tome knows well. For extra concentration points, switch your phone onto airplane mode or greyscale mode, and enjoy some beneficial screen time. Like many of us, Nolan uses her phone a little more than she'd like, "So I decided I would start reading on my phone; I use Kindle on my phone," she explains, "so that when I have the habit of having my phone in my hand, I'll be reading instead." So simple, yet so effective! We know it sounds counterintuitive, with phones being the agents of distraction and often the biggest enemy of some uninterrupted reading time, but Penguin author Megan Nolan shared this tip with us last year and it's too good not to share.
